Right hip, knee, foot pain

Question
Hello.
Problems started approximately 20 years ago very intermittently. Began running at 25 years old, now 48.
Would have numbness & swelling on pad of right foot, some pain behind 2nd, 3rd metatarsals.
Eventually this occurred every run, with some swollen ankle/ tenderness. Invested in top of line Asics, always ran in in their best sneaker. Continued to have right foot symptoms. Running 5 times/week 3 miles each run.
Decreased running due to lifestyle changes about 4 years ago. Tried to re-establish regular weekly running 3 years ago but had intermittent right knee pain. Right knee pain increased, never able to grt back to regular running. 3 months ago went to orthopedist. Dx'd weak hip girdle causing right knee grinding. Rxd physicsl therspy. Also sent to pedorthist for orthotic to support & separate 2nd & 3rd metatarsals pinching nerve. Orthotic helps reduce pain of getting in & out of car, etc. But still have pain in right knee & right hip internally around joint. Right knee still grinds & clicks. Right hip seems unstable. Physical therapy has in teased muscle strength but I still have same symptoms. Not sure what I am supposed to expect orthotics to do. Still can't run. Knee pain & lack of stability doing stairs.
Also now phyaical therapy for hnp in neck, strengthening arm & upper back muscles, correcting posture. What is going on? I used to be in super shape, even did half marathon in 2006 & weekly runs & weight lifting.
Answer
Dear Christine,
This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661,Roscoe Village 60618, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says...
For your foot pain.
I suspect you may have a metatarsal issue & not a neuroma on your R foot.
Go see a sports medicine podiatrist & maybe co-ordinate with a chiropractor.
You may also have a limb length problem, that possibly can be addressed with lifts in the correct shoe. The chiropractor can validate the limb length discrepancy & give appropriate exercises.
Areas of injury-including surgical may develop early arthritis-however let your orthopedist determine that for you.
You are six years older & need to adjust your exercise routine. That's just part of life.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck!
