AverageThoroughbred times for diffrent distances
Question
I am a beginner owner. And I would like to know what average times to expect for a horse for diffrent distances on a fast track. 6f, 6.5f, 1mile, etc. I know the track conditions will make a diffrence.
And the grade of track will as well.
I am based out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
I can't seem to find this info anywhere.
Thanks

Are you asking about breezing times or racing times? There will be a difference in what to expect. Also, as you said, the size and grade of the track, not to mention track conditions and the race conditions will have an effect on times as well. A 5/8ths mile racetrack will have times much slower than Belmont at 1-1/2, simply due to the number of turns involved.
A good way to get a handle on times at a particular racetrack is to go to www.equibase.com, and look up the race charts for that track. Charts will show not only the finishing times at the distance, but the time at the points of call as well. If you want workouts, then click on the workout tab, and choose the track that you are interested in. That will show you all of the workouts at that track each day, and the times and track condition. Just remember that any workouts from the gate will usually be slower than normal works, due to starting from a dead stop, rather than running up to the pole.
If you need any further info, I'd be glad to help!
