Lazy horse.

Question
I own a thoroughbred mare who has had two starts for two last placings.The horse is well bred and healthy.She jumps well and usually stays with the leaders until the home turn but wont sprint home.
I am sure she has a lot more speed and is just a big lazy mare.Any sugestions?.

Hi Daryl,
        The one good thing about this situation Daryl is, that you are not alone!! Most owners experience this problem at some stage and you have the sympathy of thousands.
However, sympathy does not pay the training fees.
It would be helpful to know what country/area you are in as I am located in New Zealand.
I suspect you are in the USA.
No doubt the two starts were over a distance and track condition that her breeding suggested she would perform at or maybe preparing her to step up to her most suitable distance.
Without knowing her age, breeding or anything else about her it is difficult to rule out any of the most likely causes, some of which could be, too far, wrong track conditions, undertrained (unfit), wrong training, unsuitable jockey, unsuitable gear (bit, girth, strap, saddle, bridle, etc) wrong shoes.
Maybe she doesn't like the whip or was in season?
Some of these things are obvious and you may know about them and have experimented however you didnt give me much information to go on.
Is there a video of her races available on the website of the track she raced on? If so I could watch her and give a more useful opinion.

Last but not least, maybe she is just a slow horse.
If the jockey says she is trying hard at the end of her races that may be the problem, however if she is not trying then there is hope.
