feeding a thoroughbred horse
Question
i just got a thoroughbred horse a couple days ago and i am not sure what kind of feed it needs..the people who had it before was not taking care of it all the time and it is underweight..you can see her ribs and i dont know if she needs specail attention or just alot of food...
Answer
HI WELL SHE COULD HAVE A INFRCTION OF SOME SORTS IF SHE IS THIN LIKE YOU SAY. IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO HAVE A VET LOOK AT HER FIRST,JUST INCASE SHE HAS SOMETHING REALY WRONG WITH HER. YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE HER WORMED AND HAVE HER TEETH CHECKED OR SURE.REMEMBER THAT A HORSE CAN TAKE ONLY LIKE 12% PEOTIEN.A GOOD BASIC FEED,WOULD BE OATS AND SWEET FEED AND DO NOT OVER FEED HER AS HER STOMACH IS PROB SHRUNK BECAUSE LACK OF FEED, SO PROB LIKE 4 QUARTS IN THE AM AND 4 QUARTS IN THE PM FOR AWHILE TILL SHE IS FEELIBNG GOOD. GIVE HER A GOOD CLEAN HAY ,A COUPLE OF FLAKES IN THE AM AND PM.I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE YOU HAVING A VET LOOK AT HER RIGHT AWAY FOR YOUR BENIFIT AND HERS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES THANKS ed hess
