Becoming a horse jockey
Question
My brother worked as a Veterinary Assistant for about 6 years. He has a learning Disability and never went to school for it. The idea of in school training is hard for him, but when taught something hands on he is one of the smartest people I know. He is interested in learning about becoming a Horse Jockey. (He is currently 5'2" and 120 lbs). He has no knowledge of the racing aspect of horses, but loves and works well with animals. Is there anywhere he can get training hands on to be a Horse Jockey? I'd really like to see if there is someone he could get one on one training from and with. Thanks.

Answer
Hello Autumn,
There are only two jockey schools in the US, and a good on in Puerto Rico. One of the two in US is actually in the development stage at Lexington's Kentucky Horse Park, but there would be a contact should you like to pose these questions to one of their staff. I really cannot advise otherwise. Perhaps instead of riding professionally he might enjoy a teaching role for riding with children, etc. Ky Horse Park has lots of different programs. I hope this helps. -Lora
