Horse Pedigree
Question
Hi Stephanie,
I recently purchased a horse that was rescued off the track a few years back. A couple of people have owed him sinced he raced, so I have lost any information on where he came from. I am currently working him in the hunter jumper ring and he is a quick learner, will turn out to be a great find! I would love to learn more about his background/pedigree. Is there any way to find out with just his race name?
Answer
Kim,
The Jockey Club(www.tjcis.com) can give you lots of info on your horse using just his name. Fees vary depending on what information you are looking for. If you just want his pedigree, you can try The Pedigree Query message board at www.pedigreequery.com. Click on reports, and type in your horse's name. It might bring up his pedigree. This is a mostly free site, whose information is entered by volunteers, and it often can be very useful. Be warned, though, since it is maintained by volunteers, and not affiliated with the Jockey Club, the info is not always accurate.
If you have his dam's name, occasionally a search on Google or any similar search engine will bring up useful information. Let me know if I can help you with anything else. I'd be glad to try.
Good Luck!
