buying a race horse
Question
when buying a 2 year old horse to have trained for the races what are key things to know before making such an investment? his parents were both race horses (grand dad is INDIAN RIDGE) what would a fair price for the horse be, approx?.
Answer
hi-- well if i was going to buy a 2 yr old in training then i would look for his conformation first, then look at his knees, make sure they are closed, because if you train a 2 yr old with open knees, then it will cause the horse to have knee problems in the future. you should have a trainer help you decide on which horse you can buy. the 2 yr old sales of horses in training might be something you might want to go to and see what kind of horses are in the sale.price is always going to be what ever you can afford to spend on the horse. i would make sure his or hers mother has produced winners from her foals. the dam or mother is 60% and the father is 40%, so the mothers side of the family is more important then the fathers side. remember to include the training costs in your estimates . hope this helps you thanks ED HESS
