QuestionI have another question for you (my first was on public sales).
We have 5 mares we are wanting to breed this year and someone suggested we look into foal shares instead of paying "retail" for all of our mares....
Can you explain what "foal shares" are and where one may locate them?
We are located in southern Ohio and plan to foal our mares in Kentucky.
Thank you
Kim
Note: I am using another email account as I just discovered our ISP is having issues with their email server sending emails back.
AnswerFoal shares provide discounted or free stud fees to mare owners when the stallion share owner wants to split the value of the foal that is eventually sold. These are somewhat common, however our agency does not do it. It is a partnership that you enter and you want to make sure you have a secure position and trust factor in the event that the project goes south for any reason.
You would be best to try to research this opportunity with the stallion stations of good reputation, yet that work with mid range stallion service fees, such as Ashford Stud, or Three Chimneys, or Gainesway. Why not send me your pedigrees and let us help you make some decisions, the pedigree will have a lot to do with how willing these stallion entities are to enter such agreements. Good luck, Lora Brown,
