Should I keep a foal to race?

Question
I breed TBs and have a filly who is by Rayja Sabha out of I'm a Plum Cake. The sire has good bloodlines, raced and won about $165,000. His sire was Concern and his Dam was in the money 14 of 16 times. The filly's dam was unraced. The brood mare sire was also unraced though he has sired some nice foals. I am debating if I should sell this filly and aim her to towards racing myself Comments would be appreciated.

Answer
We believe in breeding to sell, then selecting race stock from the huge offerings of animals listed for sale at a given venue.  This increases your odds for success.  The only time we keep the produce is when for some reason they can't bring enough at the sale to cover the stud fee, etc., in which case we would keep the foal for racing.  Usually though dealing with upper middle range investments, breeding to sell works out very well. Hopefully these profits can be set out to pay the training bills for the inexpensive race horse your buy.  Best of luck you!
