preparation of racehorse for trainer
Question
QUESTION: Hi ,
we are training horses of diferent kinds with 20 years of experience but now for the first time have a young racehorse in our stable. The owner sent it to us that we would take care of it until it will go to the racetrac and trainer in 6 months.
Obviously we will not ride it, but im interested to know what would a trainer like to have been done before the horse comes to him in training .
Thanks in advance
Dagmar
ANSWER: HI WELL IF IT IS A YOUNG HORSES YOU WILL HAVE TO TEACH HIM HOW TO WALK WITH YOU,HORSES AT THE TRACK WALK EVERY DAY AFTER THEY GALLOP AND COOL THEM OUT FOR 30 MINS. TRAIN HIM TO LET YOU PICK HIS FEET EVERY DAY ,AND PUT A BRIDLE ON HIM EACH DAY FOR A SHORT TIME.PLAY A RADIO AROUND HIM TOO SO HE GETS USE TO NOISE. BRUSH HIM ALSO SO HE GETS USE TO THE ATTENTION HE WILL GET WHEN HE STARTS TRAINING AT THE TRACK.IF HE IS YOUNG YOU SHOULD HAVE HIS TEETH CHECKED AND WORMED EVERY 6 MONTHS. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU THANKS ed hess

QUESTION: Thanks for your answer. What you suggest is what we are already doing with all our young horses, I was wondering if there are special lessons the horse should have passed through like preparation for the starting.
Thanks
Dagmar
Answer
HI , WELL AS LONG AS THE HORSE IS GOING TO THE RACE HORSE TRAINER, THE TRAINER WILL WANT TO TRAIN THE HORSE THE WAY HE WANTS TO. SO AS LONG AS THE HORSE KNOWS THE BASIC STUFF, THAT IS ABOUT ALL YOU CAN DO WITH HIM. THE TRAINER WILL GO FROM THERE. I USED TO BOARD HORSES OFF THE TRACK FOR TRAINERS WHO WANT THEM TO REST. JUST GOOD FEED AND CARE FOR THEM TILL THEY WENT BACK TO THE TRACK. THANKS ed hess
