Question
hi can you please advise on a daily program for training a 5yr old flat race horsethat seem to be a bit stale good form as 2yr od but little since then good breeding but i cant find his key please help
Answer
Fred,
I wish it were that easy. Unfortunately, the only way to really get a handle on your horse's problem would be to actually work with him myself. I can't advise you on what training regimen to use with him, because I have no idea what has caused him to go stale.
He could be sore somewhere, and that is dulling his attitude, he could just need some time off for mental reasons, or he could just be the kind of horse that doesn't take training every day. It is even possible that he isn't up to the level of competition that he is experiencing as he's gotten older. Two year old racing is some of the easiest company that a horse will face, since he's limited to only horses in his age group.
Horses are all individuals, and their training has to reflect that. My best advice is to pay close attention to him, his eating habits, training habits and overall general demeanor, and hopefully that will give you a clue to what the problem is. If that doesn't work, send him to a different trainer, who might better be able to ascertain the problem. Sometimes fresh eyes are a huge help.
Good luck with him,
