mucous in lungs
Question
I have a 5 year old thoroughbred mare who ran a cracker first time out this year and finished second. Her next two runs were very disappointing. She was away in training. I have since brought her home and let her out in a paddock for six weeks rest. Seven weeks ago I brought her in and noticed her cough. I got vet to scope her. He found that she has a film of mucous in lungs. Heput her on treatment for a week and scoped her again but mucous remained. He the lung washed her and it showed up a high red blood cell count which suggests that she bled at some stage in training. My vet is suggesting that she may have an allergy to something in her stable and that she go on a course of steriods and be trained out of a paddock permanently. I however am not sure if I agree with him as mucous was there since before she had her six week break on grass. She has not coughed for four weks and there is no nasal discharge. Any ideas, willing to try anything
Answer
hi --when we had a horse bled in a race, we would put them on bactrim. 20 pills a day for 5 days until the 100 pills were given to the horse. but with all of the testing that they do now , you will have to make sure she is off that medication for some time before you run her again. now you might think i am crazy when i say that you can contact a palm reader and have them come to the farm and read the horse for you. they can tell where or why the horse is having problems. i have had them read horses for me in the past and have found out many things that were wrong with the horses and corrected them. hope this helps you.she probably has a head indiction of some sorts and they are hard to cure, because you have to get the right antibiotic to get rid of the type of infection she has.. thanks ED HESS
