breeding
Question
thanks for answering my dosage question, still searching!
do you think some sires offspring mature quicker than others or is it more to do with time of year they're born?
where can i find actual birth dates of individual horses?
Answer
Tom,
I definately think that certain sires have a higher percentage of early maturing offspring than others. That is where the concept of "two year old sires" was born. Reasearch has shown that some horses do have slight advantage in early racing when their actual birth dates are earlier, but it pretty much equals out by their three year old year. But we're talking January foals versus May and June foals, rather than January versus February, for instance.
As far as being able to find out exact birth dates, again, I don't know of a free, reliable source for getting the actual day and month of a horse's birth.
