Horse racing/entries
Question
Can 2 horses that are owned by the same person and trained by the same trainer, be entered in the same G1 race in the US? Thanks.
Answer
Hi Larry:
Every State has its own regulations regarding entries and preference (which horses get to participate when a race overfills). In a stakes race, preference is usually based on overall purse money earned and/or placing/money earned in other stakes races. Also, in most stakes races, owners are required to pay fees to nominate, enter and participate in the event.
The answer to your question is YES - an owner can enter and run two horses trained by the same trainer, in ANY race. Whether the horses get in (if the race overfills), and whether they will be coupled (for betting purposes), depends on State regulation and/or the stakes-race conditions.
