Winners?
Question
Hi.
In maiden races, horses have yet to win a race.
Is the same true of selling stakes?
In what other types of races, are non-winners likely to be found?
Thank you.
Answer
Bor,
There are maiden special weight races, which are for maidens with no selling price attached. Then there are maiden claiming races, in which any the horses can be taken for the amount of the claiming price. There are maiden claiming races at many different price levels.
Also, there are usually no restrictions on entering maidens in any type of open race, so you could actually see a maiden entered in nearly any kind of race, including Graded Stakes. It doesn't happen often, but if a trainer feels very strongly about his horse, and the race comes up at the right time, it isn't unheard of.
