Tb Mare w/ breathing problem.
Question
I recently acquired a tb mare that developed a breathing disorder on the track. she came off as a 3 year old and she is 4-5 years old and has had all that time off. I retrain horses for hunter/jumpers and eventing, and was wondering if this would impair her ability to preform in hunter/jumpers, she will become my show horse and just wanted to know what you thought. just running in the field she seams to be fine, i haven't seen or herd anything abnormal. Also do you think something like "Breath Aid" would help her? I would not consider this COPD, bc she didn't have it until she had been racing.
Thanks,
Jaclyn
Answer
hi-- well you should have a vet scope her and just see what kind of breathing problem she has. if it is just a minor breathing problem , i am sure she will be ok for hunting and jumping, but id she has a flap problem, then she would need a operation to breath better. i have raced many horses with breathing problems, and have won many races. you are going to have to find out just how bad her wind is. breath aid is just a very minor way to help her breath, but will not help a serious breathing problem. hope this helps you thanks ED HESS
