Question
I have two three yr olds tht just started racing at Remington I have run them at ^ and ^ one half furlongs, they come out on fire but last 100 yards or so they hit a brick wall > I gallop every other day with a work n between. My ? is should I be workn twice a week or how long of work should I give them. I have always run quarter horses so if you could give me advice on these thouroghbreds, I would greatly appreciate it.
Answer
hi-- thoroughbreds are not quarter horses so they do need different type of training. i think you are over training them at this point of time. too much work outs are not needed. the horses appear to have speed, so you need to gallop them 1 1/2 miles a day and no work outs between gallops. if i was going to run them at say 6 furlongs, then i would gallop them for 3-4 weeks and then a half mile work out before they are ready to be entered to run. again it really depends on the horse , on how much training that horse needs to be fit for a race. some horses do not need much training between races to run a great race, and other horses need to be trained a lot and have a work out before they run. so you will have to figure out what each horse needs.i hope this helps you out. thanks ED HESS
