Getting started

Question
Hello Ed Hess. I want to become a jockey after high school and I don't know where to start. I do plan on getting into barrel racing to get more experience with horses. I have experience but I don't think that I have enough to strengthen my chances at becoming a jockey. After that I don't know what to do.

Answer
hi -- well if you want to become a jockey, you will have to find a farm that breaks young horses and start there. becoming a jockey is a long hard road and plenty of work and you must really love what you are doing, because it takes a lot of hard work and commitment. you will prob have to start from scratch , learning how to ride all over again. there are farms that are always looking for gallop boys to break young horses. i hope you follow your dream . good luck.  thanks ED HESS
