protecting a horse from heat stroke
Question
QUESTION: hello sir, how to protect a horse from heat stroke??
ANSWER: HI- TRY NOT TO OVER WORK A HORSE IN THE EXTREME HEAT. KEEP THE HORSES SYSTEM UP WITH VITAMENS AND ELECTROLYTES. ALWAYS COOL THE HORSE OFF FAST AFTER ANY WORKOUT OR RACE WITH COOL WATER. KEEP THEM MOVING AFTER A WORK OUT OR RACE. DO NOT TAKE A LONG TIME TO BATH THE HORSE. YOUR VET WILL ADVISE YOU ON THAT TYPE OF PROBLEM. THANKS ED HESS

QUESTION: sir, what happens if i take long time to bathe a horse??
Answer
HI -- AFTER A HARD WORKOUT OR RACE THE HORSE IS BREATHING VERY HARD AND IF YOU JUST STOP THEM AND TAKE A LONG SLOW TIME BATHING THEM, THEY CAN GET A HEAT STROKE. I ALWAYS HIT THEM WITH A COLD WATER HOSE AFTER THE RACE WAS OVER WHERE YOU UNSADDLE THE HORSE. SPRAY THEM DOW QUICKLY BEFORE YOU HEAD BACK TO THE BARN, THAT WAY THEY WILL START TO COOL DOWN FOR YOU. WHEN YOU GET BACK TO THE BARN , YOU AGAIN SPRAY THEM WILL COOL WATER TILL THEY ARE COOL DOWN. LET THEM WALK AROUND IN A CIRCLE WHILE YOU ARE COOLING THEM DOWN WITH THE HOSE. THANKS Ed Hess
