Re: Cafe Silver
Question
I purchased a race horse in March I knew he had been very famous in Uruguay and then purchased by Godolphin Farms in Dubai. They purchased him for 1million. Something happened while he was there and he was not raced. They sold him to someone in the USA for almost nothing and he was off for 2 years. Uruguay said he had surgery but I find no scars. How can I find out what happened. The man who I purchased him from said he had no information and he had purchased him in 2010 because he was winning races and in fact doing very well but on smaller circuits. My daughter wants to use him as a Hunter/Jumper but I want to be sure he an she will be okay. Can you help me
Answer
Hi Penny,
I would like to be able to help you as this sounds like the sort of detective work I like, however I have not been able to find a reliable source of info in Uruguay.
You probably have more information about the breeding and maybe the original owner, trainer or stable. That is where I would start. If they sold this horse for $1m then they will be interested in what happened to it.
I am not sure that Godolphin could care less as this is not a particularly expensive horse by their standards.
A good source of information is the racing journalists in the main centre They will remember this horse and will be interested if there looks to be a story in the offing.
Sorry I can't point you in the direction of definite info but maybe these thoughts will lead you in the right direction.
