MORNING GLORY - sutuation arising

Question
hello sir, i am sorry to ask you this:

hope you are aware of MORNING GLORY, a racing term. this situation means that a horse performs well in the morning trackwork but fails to reproduce its talent in the race. may i know why? what would be the reason behind it?

Answer
This syndrome baffles many trainers and there could be a variety of reasons the horse does not do well in competition. If the horse does not train with groups of horses, then it's possible the horse is intimidated by the horses around him. If you are not training a horse in the equipment he will be racing in, then he may be uncomfortable in the race tack. He may be allergic to lasix which is typically not used in training, but on race day. It could be anything from rider change to time of day. I would try to simulate racing, the best you can, in morning work outs. A lot of times the horse just doesn't know how to pass horses or even hates dirt kicked in it's face. Try training behind horses and teaching the horse to pass inside and out and split horses. It's one of those things where it's hard to really tell why the horse is not liking competition so all you can do is take special care and pay close attention to this horse if you want him to overcome this problem.
