Question
length between rail su
hello sir, what can be the length between each rail supporter in thoroughbred racing?
sir, this is the clear image of what i mean to say. hope you understood my question.
AnswerThe length between the rail supports is approximately 8 feet. It is no coincidence that the distance of 8 feet is the approximate "length" of a race horse. 1 "horse length" is, at race speeds, the distance it takes a horse to run approx. 1/5 of a second. So a horse should cover a distance of approximately 40 feet (5 lengths) in 1 second. These numbers are all for quick reference and will actually show slower times at a larger scale. It's closer to correct at a 30mph speed which is under actual race speed. A horse will cover around 55 feet per second at actual race speeds.
The rail supports are placed this way, not only for support, but for reference during the race on how far the horses are spaced apart. Now you have a distance reference and a time reference when you use the rail supports for reference.
