dead track - good performer
Question
QUESTION: hello sir, a horse performing well on dead turf track means is it a good performer at any track condition?
ANSWER: Not necessarily. He should be in theory, but you will not know unless you try them on other surfaces.
---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------
QUESTION: sir, our indian racetracks which conduct racing only on thoroughbreds are purely turf tracks. our race club conducted gate training session on a dead turf track at 1200m. ALCOCK ARABIAN STAKES winner PROOF 3 year old bay gelding broke cleanly from gates galloped very fast and struck the finish line at 1min 16sec. in the last 3 fur, this horse finished at 37sec.
so, will the horse perform well on well conditioned track since it performed extraordinarily on the dead track
Answer
A horse that performs well on a "slow track" or "dead track" will certainly be fit enough to run well on a faster surface. You must understand when the track conditions change, they change for everyone in the race. A horse with more speed that tends to tire on a slower track may be brilliant over a faster track. At the same time, a horse that comes off the pace with a steady run and finishes strong may not be able to catch a speedy horse on a fast track, but will pass the same tiring horse on a slower track as the speedy horse tires. The fitter you horse is, the better chance he has to win on different type of surfaces.
