leaving hind feet unshod in the race
Question
hello sir, i have seen few top trainers race their stable horses with aluminum shoes shod on the fore feet leaving the hind feet unshod. but still those horses performed well. may i know why they might had left the hind feet unshod? at our local racetrack, the race is conducted on only bermuda grass. isnt it a big risk for the trainer when their horses turn lame in the hind?
Answer
A shod horse is more likely to injure more than a barefoot horse. Leaving hind feet without shoes gives horses the natural footing that nature intended. The foot is allowed to flex freely and will help pump blood through their body better. If the horse performs well without shoes then it would be safer to run that way.
