Question
2 years olds - stout a
hello sir, most of the 2 year old racehorses are fat when compared to their senior runners. may i know why? one of the senior grooms at our local racetrack told me that these babies are only on bran, water and stall rest. once they are schooled and exercised, their weight comes down and they look balanced. is the groom correct?
AnswerI don't know about keeping the young horses on stall rest and bran, but they will burn fat as they gain muscle and build up a level of fitness required for racing. You will start too see the fat come off and the muscles will grow. You will notice lines of muscle show through the coat as they get closer to becoming race fit.
