horse not allowing jockey to mount in paddock
Question
hello sir, here in india, few horses dont allow the jockey to mount on them in the paddock on the raceday. they are taken to the starting point riderless, or sometimes with the stable boy sitting atop. the jockey comes to the starting point in the car and then mounts near the gates. i really wonder that horse willingly allows the jockey to mount on it. may i know how? what problem it faced in the paddock? how to fix this problem
Answer
There is no true answer since the horse is unable to tell us exactly why he is acting in this manner. I imagine the same type of behavior goes on even when saddling. In North America horses must carry the weight to the gate from the paddock otherwise it is deemed unfair. I imagine this is why the stable boy gets on the horse. I have never seen that here (someone other that the jockey ride to paddock) and usually a horse is scratched in the paddock by the stewards. The only thing I suspect is the horse is either in pain or instinctively thinks something is wrong and doesn't want to run. There is no definite fix to the problem. The horse may need time off to regain his senses and heal anything that may be bothering him.
