Props - Stainless vs. Aluminum
Question
I have a 19` Starcraft Bowrider, with 4.3 V-6 I/O and currently have a 14 1/2" x 17 pitch alum prop. I would like to have more lift and pull for skiers, but not worry about top end decreasing or over reving the engine. Going to a simular size/pitch stainless with a better cup/smooth/cleaner type of prop going to give me better performance (recommend any types or brands?)
And a second Question, I have this Alum prop for a while, how many times can it be restored before its not as good as getting a new one (or does reconditioning bring it back to like new condition?)
Thanks for any advice you can provide.
Answer
Hi Steve--I feel that a stainless prop is the only way to go.Check with the manuf of your drive setup they offer a good choice of props to fit your needs.I also found it handy to have 2 props one for lite loads(more pitch) and one for heavy engine loads (less pitch)just remember that with a flat prop(one with less pitch)you as the driver have to control engine speed. Good luck
