Running outboard dry after use
Question
I used my outboard (50 Merc tank mix) only occasionally and have made a habit of disconnecting the fuel line and allowing the carb to run dry. After starting doing this cranking was never a problem.
I now have a new boat and motor (99 Yamaha 40, tank mix) and have been advised against running the engine dry. I am concerned in the Alabama heat and with my occasionally use, that my carb will gum up if I leave fuel in it. What do you think? Thank you so much for your help...Bill
Answer
Hi Bill I cannot figure out why you would be advised not to run the fuel from the carb, but yes your gas will go bad in 30 days or less.I use a product called( StaBil) it works great and you can buy it at most auto supply stores.just add the proper amount to your gas an forget about the gas going bad for a long time. Good luck
