boat leaking
Question
help we just had our boat summerized and put in the water, it keeps filling up with water and the bilge keeps pumping it out. we checked the plugs, what else can we check? could the person who winterized it have done something wrong to cause this leak. everything was fine last season
Answer
Hi Monica
Thank you for selecting the undersigned to respond to your question.
In order to assist you, it would most helpful to know the make, model, length, and type of construction of your boat?
Is your boat powered by an outboard or inboard motor?
For example, if your boat is made of wood, it may leak until the planks or plywood seams swell sufficiently to stop the leak, which is a natural occurrence when the vessel is initially launched each year.
In the event your boat has any type of a through-hull fitting, it might be a leak source. Could the inboard engine's intake or exhaust manifold be fractured? Check for rust stains and look around the sides of the engine block for a popped frost plug.
There are quite a number of causes for boat leaks, and to go through all of them is just not practical. So, when you can provide more information, I'll be pleased to respond.
