Yamaha Outboard Problem
Question
I have a Yamaha 150 Pro V that is dying when it is put in gear. I have tried to adjust the timing and idle but really don't know if I'm work on the actual problem. If you gun it instead of easing it into gear it will usually run. The strange thing is that once you get the boat moving it runs great. Could you provide me with any assistance? Thanks in advance
Answer
Hi David
Thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.
I'm not a marine mechanic, but your problem appears to be fuel related. Have you checked the automatic choke to make sure the system is functioning correctly? Perhaps the engine isn't receiving sufficient air, as the throttle is progressively advanced, because when you rapidly accelerate, it works fine, right? Have you checked the throttle linkage to ensure it is secure and not malfunctioning? There may be a problem with the reeds, and only a marine mechanic can trouble shoot that for you. Did you review the Owner's Manual? Often, they have solutions for problems such as yours. Other than the above, my best recommendation is to have a qualified marine mechanic check out the symptom and resolve the problem.
