Hard Steering

Question
I have a 1987 19ft. sea ray seville that has hard steering any way you turn the wheel. I have checked the power steering pump and it is pumping normal. The only thing I can figure is the cable is binding or the steering gear is malfunctioning. Please let me know what you think.

Hi Mark...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.

Unless the steering system was replaced in the past 20 yrs., nothing lasts for ever but, the cable can bind due wear & tear, or unsecure fastenings. Have you checked the connection at the engine? Is the hydraulic push rod is bent?

In the final analysis, you may have to consult a qualified and reliable marine mechanic to resolve the issue.
