my boat jumps too much
Question
QUESTION: it jumps like a jetski when im going faster than 35 mph its so anoing i think its suposed to be a smoth ride does it have anything to do with the drive or the prop ?
ANSWER: Hi Milo...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to respond to your question.
Since you didn't describe your boat's length or type & horsepower of engine, I can only speculate an opinion.
First of all, check the alignment of the keel. If is warped up and down or is hog-backed, that will cause the boat to porpoise.
Secondly, if your engine is equipped with power trim, perhaps you need to review the owners manual and experiment during take-off as to how to trim and get the boat up on plane quickly.
Third, you might have the wrong length of shaft on the motor, particularly if it is an outboard.
Check it out or get back to me with much more detail.

QUESTION: oh ok i have a chaparral 190 sternmotor 19.8 ft long with a Volvo penta rear end v8 inside i usually start with the trim down all the way and then i lift a bit and when it starts to jump i bring it back down and it helps but the manual says that i should ride with trim in the middle but that does not work at take off!!
Answer
Milo...a 19' chaparral with a volvo sterndrive system eh? Well, if this symptom arose all of a sudden, I'm surprised. Best you check the keel. Your boat may have been improperly stored, resulting in distortion of the keel. However, the keel may be deteriorating, and you'll have to repair/replace it.
