35hp Evinrude kicks out of gear?
Question
I have an older 35hp evinrude that kicks out of gear at higher RPM's now it doesnt always kick out it will usually only kick out once and then run fine for the rest of the day. Today however it was more frequent. I can put it back in gear and continue every time but i would like to fix the problem.
Answer
Hi Kory...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to respond to your inquiry.
I'm not a mechanic, but having experienced that problem with an old 10hp Scott-McCullough, I learned the dog clutch had worn and was slipping on the shaft. Prior to that, the mechanic water-tested the engine and concluded the problem had nothing to do with the gear linkage, which he thought might require a minor adjustment.
Best you have a reliable and qualified marine mechanic do the trouble-shooting and save yourself a lot of time and trouble, and perhaps unnecessary costs.
