air horns
Question
QUESTION: a few years ago i was actively engaged in sailing and we had available an air horn with a compressed gas cylinder that, when the air was used up, could be unscrewed and used by breathing into a small port in the end.
i have looked all over recently and no one seems to have any idea what i am talking about.
i am hoping that you might have an idea if they are still available and who might sell them.
i thank you in advance for your wisdom
ANSWER: Hi Jonathan...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.
I believe refillable air horn cannisters are still available, but I don't know the name(s) of the manufacturer(s). Have you explored online or consulted a local marine supply store?

QUESTION: Ron
thanks for the prompt reply but it wasn't a refillable cannister i was looking for.
the horn part of what we had at the time had the ability to be screwed to a cannister or simply blown into with one's lips. if one ran out of canister air in an emergency, one could simply blow and the sound was amplified incredibly. one could later buy another canister or have the one they used refilled.
i am getting into the safety field of the oil and gas industry and wondering if this is still available to avoid needing the cannister in an emergency situation (also less gear to carry)
every place i look now only has the horns that can be screwed onto a cannister and do not have the ability to be operated without compressed air.
thanks again for any info you might be able to provide
Jonathan
Answer
I apologize for my misunderstanding Jonathan.
I've never heard of nor seen the type or design of air horn you've described, therefore, would have no idea who the manufacturer might be. Perhaps your best bet is to surf the net or consult with various marine supply stores. In any event, good hunting.
