impeller
Question
We own a Starcraft 4.3 liter V6 inboard, we just replaced the engine last year. Now we found out the impeller is bad, and found rubber parts. We are looking for instructions so we can replace this ourselves for cost reasons. Any help would be appreciated.
Answer
Hi there Bobbi Ray...thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.
I'm not a mechanic, however, do not use the boat till the impeller is replaced otherwise, you could cause serious and costly damage to the engine.
I recommend you go on line to the manufacture's website (likely Mercury) and see what guidelines they have to offer. Also, you might check the owners manual, or consult a qualified and reliable marine mechanic.
Although you're attempting to save money, sometimes its best to let the pros handle certain repairs. It just may cost you less in the long run. Don't forget to check the fresh water intake, because it may be clogged with debris or plastic of some sort, and that may have been the cause of the problem in the first place.
