HI, I HAVE A 1984 SEARAY SEVILLE WTH A 488 MERCRUISER ENGINE THE BOAT WAS SITTING FOR THE WINTER, AND FIRST DAY OUT RAN FINE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND STALLED BUT DIDNT TURN OFF, I TRY TO GIVE IT MORE GAS AND SHUT OFF, GOT TOWED IN, THE NEXT DAY TOOK HER OUT AGAIN TURNED ON FINE , BUT I DECIDED TO KEEP IT AROUND 5MPH TO TRY TO GET TO MECHANIC ABOUT 2MILES AWAY, ABOUT HALF WAY THERE AT 5MPH SHE STALLED AGAIN, AND HAD A HARD TIME STARTING HER UP AGAIN ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT IT MIGHT BE?

Although I'm not a marine mechanic, it sounds like the fuel may be contaminated with water, usually due to condensation that builds up during seasonal storage because the tank was not kept completely full. Alternatively, the gas may have lost some of its octane, and there's an additive you can introduce that will improve that problem and another that will eliminate the moisture. Also, check all fuel line connections and make certain they're secure and not leaking. Next, check the fuel filter. It may be obstructed and needs cleaning. I'd also check the choke on the engine. It may be defective or requires lubrication. And don't forget to check the diaphram in the carb. It could be torn.
