connecting multiple batteries on my boat
Question
I have a 264 Fourwinns. I have a Perko battery switch that was originally installed by the dealer in 2003. My stereo system has 4 amps that were drawing heavily on the battery and would run them down quickly. I replaced the original batteries and added two additional batteries for a total of 4. I replaced all with the blue top Optima. This was done at the end of last season by a mechanic that is no longer in business.
My problem is now I am getting a loud interference on the stereo when the engine is running. Also the bank # 2 is not charging. I feel that the mechanic incorrectly installed the new batteries.
Answer
Hi Carl...thanks for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.
First of all, I find it difficult to understand how a 4amp stereo system could drain a battery while the engine is running. Secondly, I don't understand the necessity of replacing two batteries, unless they were tested and determined to be permanently damaged. Thirdly, interference on your radio is likely a wiring problem with that system, not the batteries. Best you consult a qualified, reliable and trustworthy marine mechanic for resolve your problems before you end up spending more money needlessly.
