1970 Merc 1350
Question
Hello. I have just finished a summer project of revamping my vintage merc 1350. We took the powerhead apart, cleaned the pistons, cleaned the cylinders, replaced rings, all lines, and every aspect major engine rebuild! It took forever, but the engine runs perfectly. Compression ratios are even with the book specs and it flies on the water. Anyway, my question is what is a rebuilt vintage motor of this type worth? It is a 1970 merc 1350 in line six.
Answer
Hello Sherry...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.
Frankly, I have no idea as to how much you might expect to get for a rebuilt '70 135hp Merc. I would think its a matter of supply of demand. For example, there are far more antique boats in the eastern portion of continental north america than there are elsewhere, which indicates the location of your potential buyers. Conversely, people will also take into account the availability and cost of parts, in the event something failed. Keep your receipts to validate the parts that were replaced. To the right buyer, I'm guessing, they might pay as high as $1,000 or more, or offer as low as $250. You just never know what the market will bear. Have you consulted an antique boat dealer? Do some exploring. It might pay dividends.
