Periodic Start-UP of Engines
Question
Hello, I purchased a 2005 300 Searay ( 10 hours like new)last year and will retire soon. Unfortunately I am unable to use it as much as I would like at this time. It is a weekend use for now. Is there a problem with non use for 7 to 14 days at a time? I feel the batteries and engines would be adversely affected if not started up. A dock hand said if the batteries are shut down but you are on constant Shore power as I am, there should be no problem. Appreciate you input. Thanks
Answer
Hi Ray...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.
I'm not a mechanic, however, not operating your engines for 1-2 wks will not do any harm. Just make sure your fuel tanks are full so as to prevent the build-up of condensation which will contaminate the fuel. Normally, shorepower bypasses batteries, so there's no problem to consider. Just make certain that when you do start the engines, check the battery gauge. If equipped with a trickle charger, shore power will keep your batteries topped up. Also, don't forget to leave the bilge pump on "automatic", just in case of heavy rain, etc.
