boat leans to left
Question
What can cause a boat to lean to the left? 18' v-bottom aluminum 135 merc, floats level. I hear of incorrectly engine mounting, trim tab, bent skeg, I recently bought some smart trim tabs, they haven't corrected my probelm, fixing to make them adjustable with some turn buckles. What should I try to do first. Please help before I sink it.
Answer
Hi Gregg...thanks for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.
I'm presuming you've checked the bilge and there's no leakage of water. When you take your hand(s) off the steering wheel, does the boat still steer left? If so, adjust the small grey fin beneath the cavitation plate to the right until the boat runs perfectly straight. Then determine whether it still lists to the left. If it does, it's likely there's a problem with load distribution of fuel, equipment, people, etc., which requires adjustment.
