25 hp Yamaha Outboard
Question
I have an older 25 hp Yamaha 2 stroke outboard that suddenly has developed some kind of problem. Motor starts easy but when I open throttle to run at full speed I have to pull the choke almost all the way or it stalls out. I pulled the filter on the motor and cleaned it and it actually ran normal with no choke for about a half day but now it has the same issue. Emptied the bowl and clean the filter again but still stalls out and only runs at about 3/4 throttle with the choke pulled. Is it bad gas or do you think it's dirt somewhere in the carb? I've heard there is a main jet that should be cleaned??
Thanks for the help!
Answer
Hi there...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question. Unfortunately, I'm not a mechanic but AllExperts does have marine technicians available and suggest you consult them.
However, there could be a diaphram problem in the carb or possibly, and for whatever reason, the butterfly valve closes at full throttle and floods the engine. Check it out with a more knowledgeable source.
