Phillips bicycle
Question
Hello Michael,
I got an old Phillips 3-speed bicycle at a garage sale and wondered if you could help me figure out when it was made, and by whom? I have looked at some websites that indicate where the serial no. is but I've not been able to find one. I know Phillips was bought by Raleigh in 1960. This bike doesn't say "Raleigh" anywhere on it. The rear hub has a 70 on it, and I guess if it's the original rear hub, that would make it a 1970. So that would be a Raleigh-made bike, right? Just checking, since it doesn't say directly. One site said that the Raleigh-made Phillips are at the lower-end of the quality scale. Dang! It still looks cool to me though.
Also, is there a way to figure out what model seat I have? It is a Brooks, and it is torn a bit on the top. I don't see a number, but there are two big rear springs, and several smaller springs underneath running from the front to about the middle, I think.
I think I have a Raleigh-made Phillips with a low-end, mattress-type Brooks seat, but I would like another opinion, since I know next-to-nothing about bicycles. Thanks in advance for any info you have.
Regards,
Jo
Answer
Hello Jo,
First I want to thank that you asked me this question, but I can't help you out with this, because I'm not familiar with bikes from before 1978.
Maybe you can ask someone from www.raleighbikes.com and also take a look at www.brooks.com
Kind regards and good luck.
