Recumbent Bicycle
Question
Hello George,
I live in Denver and I am considering buying a recumbent bike. I am 48 and I did ride a standard mountain bike for many years. The reason I quit was because the extended hours of sitting adversely affected my sexual functioning for a time, even with a gel seat. Now I want to get back in shape, and I miss biking. There are very few other activities I know I would stay with. I found a shop in Denver that can order me a Cannondale recumbent bike. Here are my questions for you:
Can you recommend a particular style of recumbent bike, and what is a "tandem"? When riding in city traffic and stopping at lights, do you know if a recumbent bike is reasonably comfortable when putting your leg down to stabilize yourself when stopped? If this action is too akward I may have to reconsider as I live and work downtown.
I look forward to your reply. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
-Don Millan

Answer
Hello,
Thanks for the question. A TANDEM bike are those two seater bikes, 1 bike with two people peddling.
As for a recumbent they are very comfortable. I dont know much about them but I tried one out once. You can also get them in 3 wheels so thats also something to consider.
As for putting your feet down when at a light its very comfortable. However I am a little concerned if you plan on using a recumbent in the city durring work hours because they are so low some cars may not see you so thats something else to consider.
Have you thought of a comfort bike? They are great because you are in an upright possition. Look at this link and see what you think.
Recumbents are not really my area but standard bikes are. If you need help with comfort bike let me know.
Hope I helped you out and good luck.
