mountain bikes

Hello George i'm looking to buy my wife a mountain bike for Christmas.Can I get anything decent for under $300? Bike riding is somthing that we are just getting into.We mostly ride trails in the state parks here in Louisiana.No mountains just small hills.Any suggestion would be helpful

Hey Lynn,

Under $300, mostly for trails with no mountains. Lets see.....

FI would suggest that you get a cruiser bike then. Dont let the sales person try to sell you a hybrid (1/2 mountain 1/2 racing bike) you dont need it and it will be more expensive.

The only brands that come to mind are CCM if they sell that out where you live or Raleigh. You also DONT need shocks (more money and weight) and make sure the frame is aluminium. For your tires get the hybrid tires because the big fat knobby tires will slow you down lots, offer alot of rolling ressistance, add alot of weight to the bike and make an anoying hum. here is a link of to some CCM and Raghley bikes.
