Bike seat
Question
My husband and I own a burley tandem with a soft ride. I don't seem to have much problem with bruising soreness, but tend to have problems with chafing where the seat rubs. The seat I have now is kinda cushy and maybe a little to wide... Do you think a different seat would help? I have tried lots of different shorts, powders, and creams, but don't get a lot of relief... I do some riding in spin class and don't have this problem, however we go on a one week (500 mile) trip each summer, I always seem to suffer from chafing. I appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks!!
Answer
Hi Melissa,
A different seat may very well be the answer. Since you are not having a problem with the seats in the spin class you may want to get one as close to that as possible. Do remember though that you will be outside, not in a gym with AC, so you may sweat more and this may also contribute to the problem.
I find that a foam padded seat works quite well for me. On the Mountain Bike I have one that is padded and "ergonomically designed" for males. I did see one in a catalogue that was really unigue that actually has a sort of hinge on it and has two pads, one for each cheek. That should work for male or female and should not cause chafing, since there is nothing really between the legs.
Hope this helps
