Tri bike
Question
Michael,I have entered the world of triathlons and love it. My question is I average 20.8mph on most coarses with a entry level KHS bike, how much performance would I gain with a big dollar bike or good wheel set? I wiegh 223 lb. It seems the areo is holding me back.
Answer
Hello Tim,
Triathlon is my favorite of all sport, I like the swimming and bike part (especially the training for the switch from swimming/cycling and running) but the full marathon was way too long for me.
Anyway, you can understand that if you buy the most expensive bike like for a example a Scott carbon, a Cannondale Slice of Cerv閘o with Zipp or Hed H3 carbon rims you have the ultimate timetrialmachine. But how hard you will pedal/drive, you are the machine. Lance Armstrong could win from anyone, even a a bikemessenger bike. You can made from a average bike a good and even fast bike with a time trial steer. Use lighrweight wheelssets like a Mavic Helium but with a weight of 223 lbs (think 95-100 kilograms?) you are too heavy for them. A second hand wheelset of Specialized Aero wheel (E-bay) and the predessor from Hed H3 will do.
But how much money you want to spend. Want a other bike, change components, clothing, helmet....
Just let me know.
Mick
