Weight Training
Question
Jeff,
I am planning a cross country bike trip next Spring and wanted to incorporate weight training into my training this winter. I have free use of our local university training facility that has tons of equipment and weights.
There is a machine where you sit back and do leg pushes at a 45 degree angle. You can add weights. We also have another bar bell device for squats.
Any suggestions on a regimen 3 days a week. I'm looking to really strengthen my legs for hill climbing. I have incorporated other training for endurance and aerobics.
What about other things for the upper body or should I just worry about the legs.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Answer
Hi Dale,
I am assuming you mean a leg press or weight sled by your description and they are excellent devices to strengthen the legs. The squat rack is also great for building the hamstrings and thighs.
Here is a good overall workout that you can use www.bmgfitness.com/workout and you can customize it any way you like.
I would definitely want strong legs for a cross country and upper body strength will be needed also.
The other thing you will want to do is of course ride your bike, a lot.
A good place to keep track of everything and to find information on challenging yourself etc is http://www.dailyburn.com
they have both free and paid memberships and that is totally up to you
Also a great place for some cycling training is Cycle Coach here is a link to them www.bmgfitness.com/cyclec
Hope this helps
Have a great day
