road rims\tires on mountain bike

Question
Hey mike!

I will be doing a 100 mile bike tour in September (nyccentury.org)  been on it ever?  I just completed the nyc 5 boro bike tour a few weeks ago.

My bike was pretty good, but I probably want to get a few upgrades to make it awesome for the 100 mile.  I currently have this bike:  http://www.drakestuff.com/schwinn_mesa_gsd.htm

note: that is not my site but the bike is basically my bike.

do you think I should invest in racier rims and get road tires with it?  Or should I just get road tires?  What equipment would you recommend getting?  Can you please share some links?

thank you!

Answer
Hallo Darshan,

I've think that it is a really nice bike for cyclists who ride not that many miles per year.
If you ride on the road, I should suggest that you can easily changes the tyres onto slicks (specialized Fatboy).
Rims aren't making the differences, your position on the bike does.

If you can ride in a long/stretched position and with bar-ends you can ride easy along with other roadbikers. But how harder you'll ride, the more energy it cost. Driving around 28 km/hr. is possible.

If you have other questions, feel free.

Best regards and good luck with the preparations.
