Question
QUESTION: Hello
A very general question, please. I have a 10 years old KHS Comp mountain bike.
http://www.mtbr.com/cat/older-categories-bikes/2002-full-suspension/khs/fxt-comp
If I am buying a new good bike, will I feel any MUCH different in efficiency, pedaling ? Other advantages? Or, it is more for technical trails that you need the more advanced suspensions which I do not that much need ?
I do light plus trails but I got more into it and would like know whether it is worthwhile or not? I live in a very small town so I can not really try one here.
Thank you, Gabe
ANSWER: Hi Gabe,
I actually am very familiar with KHS. It is a good solid brand. The shop I work at here in Moultrie are KHS dealers.
I would think you will find some difference, but not sure how much. Each rider is different so it is hard to say how a person will feel one way or another. Some new features you may not like and another rider may buy the bike for the same reason you don't like it.
If I were you I would go to the local bike shop and see what they have that you can test out. If you are in a smaller town the selection may be limited, but if you don't mind driving to a larger place you may be able to find a shop that will let you try out several bikes. We have 1 shop in Moultrie and I work there part time. If I wanted to try out a bike I would have to drive 40 miles to Albany or 60 to Tallahassee, so I know what you mean by a small town. The bike shop here does repairs and all new bikes are ordered in as they are sold from a catalog. I put them together, test them and deliver them to the customer. There are no bike to test out.
If they let you test out 2 or 3 bikes you can then get a feel for what you like and what will fill your needs. Most of the Mormon Missionaries in this area bring me their bikes and most of them ride Trek Mountain Bikes. I have shown a few a couple of Hybrid bikes and they have loved them and actually bought some from the shop as they are more comfortable than the Mountain Bikes The Fuji Sunfire is one that has been very popular. The Fuji Nevada Models of Mountain Bike have also been popular here in this area. I really like the Fuji Brand bikes as they offer good quality at a reasonable price and Fuji has been making Bicycles since 1899. The bikes like most are made in China but ASI The parent company is USA, Philadelphia PA. which is also a plus in my book.
I am sorry that I can't tell you exactly what you want to know, but if you tell me the specific bike that you are wanting to know about I would be happy to let you know what I can find out about that bike, hen you can make an informed decision as to whether you want to purchase that bike.
Hope this helps
Have a great day
Jerry

QUESTION: Thanks for answering so nicely. I am looking or interested, in Rocky Mountain Elements 50. Like their design and this really count for me... The shop here actually has the Elements 10 ( not my size though, I am medium they have small) ...
I live in Sedona, AZ.
Thanks again, Gabe
Answer
Hi Gabe,
Neat I used to live in Tucson from about 86 to 91. Would the shop there be willing to get a medium so you could test it out if they thought you were going to buy it? Ask, the worst that could happen is they say no. If you offer to put down a deposit with the understanding that you would get the deposit back and they get the bike back if for any reason you don't like the bike.
I know if someone came into the small shop I work at and offered to put a deposit down on a 3000.00 bike, we would order it, put it together, tune it up and call the person to come test it. Smaller shops are usually more willing to work with their customers if they can.
Hope this helps,
