Golf Instruction For Women

Question
Hi,
I'm trying to learn to play golf. I live in a small town and so far I've taken a few lessons from a man whom is a fairly good golfer. His instructions are ok, but I know he's not giving me the instruction I need for being a female golfer.

I've read on the web were there is a difference in teaching a male golfer and a female golfer. I've searched the web till my fingers are sore. I can not find a web site for basic instructions for female golfers.

I can not afford to go to a golf school or drive into the city to take lessons either. Would anyone happen to know a good site for female golfers only?

Thank you,
Fallon

Answer
Greetings Fallon,

Sorry for the delay...my laptop crashed and burned this past Sunday. Had to get a new one...anyway let's get started!!

Let me start by saying "great job" by starting off on the right foot by seeking out proper instruction. Too many people get tips from their friends, spouses, or just trying things out themselves. While the intentions are noble on all accounts, the results usually end up developing bad habits.

Is there a difference in teaching a male or female golfer?? Let me approach this in another way if I may and still hope it answers this part of your question. When we are a "student" trying to learn something, each of us absorbs and processes the material differently. It is the teachers job not only to relay the information, or "lesson" to the student, but in a way the student understands and can further develop. Some people are visual learners, others are kinesthetic (mechanical), or a feel learner...or maybe a combination of all can prove successful for the student.

I've been told by women, mostly beginners, they prefer a female instructor....they feel more comfortable, less intimidated by, and can relate to the info. better.

There are excellent, qualified teachers of both sexes. Its best to get with one that speaks your "language". And don't give up..it takes a while to develop and repeat good habits..it's like a building block--one layer at a time.

An excellent resource for female golfers is the E.W.G.A. (Executive Women's Golf Association), an organization with chapters nationwide . WWW.EWGA.com.

Another tip...try to attend every clinic offered by your local golf course, or suggest it to them...a win-win situation.

If you're a reader...there are alot of golf instruction books written for the female golfer in mind. Also I have been a subscriber to Golf For Women magazine for a long time...great stuff!

Well, I hoped this helped and wish you the best of luck Fallon in your journey in becoming a better golfer!

Sincerely

Ruth Ann Allen, PGA
